Despite the advances in modern medicine, infectious diseases are still a serious cause of mortality and morbidity, told European Commissioner Dr. Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis on the beginning of his welcome speech to the participants of the 6th National Conference on Communicable Diseases in Vilnius (Lithuania). “Our most important tasks today are to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, to properly diagnose to treat and control them, to strengthen vaccination, to stop the development of antimicrobial resistance” – noted V.P.
